Ahoy Sailors and Howdy Land Lubbers! Walk with me as we explore the largest recreational marina in North America. Dedicated in 1965, Marina del Rey is the home port for five thousand boats. Built on tidal marshland, Marina del Rey has eight large basins that fan out from the main channel. During this walk, we will begin and end at the main channel and walk around two of the basins. As an avid sailor and sailing instructor, I spend a lot of time both on the water and on the land of Marina del Rey, and I am super excited to share a place I love. In addition to boats and boat yards, this walk will also take you past several restaurants and grocery stories. Feel free to stop and grab a bite or make yourself a picnic to take to Burton Chace Park where the walk ends. In Burton Chace Park, you can sit on a grassy hill and watch the boats go by or the sea lions lounge on the docks. There’s always something happening on the main channel of the marina especially if the sun is shining.
